The Can & Laminated Materials Research Department proposes the total best breakthroughs, taking advantage of an integrated research system specializing in steel sheets for cans which ranges from material technologies for substrate steel sheets, plated products, and lamination technology to use technologies for can body design and forming.
Steel cans with various shapes
JFE Steel can respond to diversified needs with integrated design from the steel composition to manufacturing conditions, including substrate materials suitable for forming various kinds of cans and strength and sheet thickness design considering the can use environment.
Electroplating pilot line
With state-of-the-art plating and chemical conversion treatment technologies backed by sure experience and flexible thinking, JFE Steel’s can materials can respond to the diverse property requirements demanded in cans, including adhesion with paints and plastic films, weldability for can body joining, and corrosion resistance to protect the can from rust.
High speed laminating pilot line
Laminated steel sheets, which are produced by laminating a thin plastic film on a steel sheet, are a people- and global-environment-friendly material which makes it possible to omit the painting/paint-baking processes. JFE plans to expand the use of these materials to various applications, taking advantage of their economy and compatibility with the environment.
Can-making simulator
The Can & Laminated Materials Research Dept. makes full use of FEM analysis, forming tests, and similar use/evaluation technologies to support can design and evaluation of can-making properties by the customer. These technologies also contribute to proposals for new cans using new materials.
