Corrosion Protection

The Corrosion Protection Research Dept. develops corrosion resistant materials corresponding to life cycle cost design and corrosion protection solution technologies for use of Steel materials.

Corrosion Resistant Materials

As steel products which improve corrosion problems in bridges, ships, and other large-scale steel structures that support the social infrastructure, JFE steel is developing atmospheric corrosion resistant steels (weathering steels) and corrosion resistant steels for shipbuilding, and is making an important contribution to the creation of a safe, secure society by proposal of corrosion resistance steel product which consider life cycle costs.

Corrosion Protection Coating Technology

JFE Steel is also conducting research and development to realize higher performance in corrosion resistant coated steel products used in various infrastructure facilities in severe corrosion environments, such as civil engineering/construction materials for use in ports, harbors, offshore structures, linepipe, and others, and proposes corrosion resistant coated steel products with higher reliability and higher performance in life cycle cost.

Composite Corrosion Protection Technology

With the aim of reducing the life cycle cost of civil works/building structures by rationalizing construction methods and extending useful life, JFE steel is conducting research and development on new steel-based composite materials and proposes new construction materials for civil engineering and construction.


Corrosion Solution Technologies

JFE steel is engaged in research and development of corrosion prediction techniques, diagnosis and maintenance techniques, and innovative application technologies which take advantage of corrosion resistant steels, and is contributing to the development of optimum corrosion protection design guidelines and rational optimum material development through corrosion solution technologies for customers.
