JFE Steel Corporation (JFE Steel) and its strategic alliance partner in India, JSW Steel Limited (JSW Steel), decided on October 23, 2026, to make capital investments to expand production capacity at the Sambalpur steelworks in Odisha, India, operated by their joint venture, JSW JFE Steel Limited (JJSL).
The investment will increase the plant’s crude steel production capacity from the current 4.5 million tonnes to 9.5 million tonnes, further accelerating the growth of JFE Steel’s business in India, a core component of its overseas business strategy.

India’s steel demand is expected to grow strongly over the medium to long term, supported by expanding infrastructure investment and the advancement of the manufacturing sector. Through JJSL, JFE Steel will strengthen its supply framework for high-value-added products in India and capture demand in this growing market, thereby enhancing earnings from its overseas business.

The investment is intended to further develop the integrated steelworks joint venture with JSW Steel announced in December 2025. It will expand JJSL’s manufacturing capacity in stages, with the ultimate goal of achieving a crude steel production capacity of approximately 15 million tonnes in the future.

To achieve our long-term vision of JPY 500 billion in steel business segment profits by fiscal 2035, JFE aims to realize JPY 200 billion in overseas business profit. We will accomplish sustainable growth by proactively investing in growth sectors and regions, in addition to actualizing benefits of investments we have already made to date.
