JFE Steel Corporation

JFE Steel Receives World Steel Association’s Safety and Health Excellence Recognition for Second Consecutive Year

JFE Steel Corporation announced today that it has received the Safety and Health Excellence Recognition 2023 award in the Occupational Safety Management category from the World Steel Association. JFE Steel received the same award last year in the Safety Culture and Leadership category.

The award is presented annually to World Steel Association member companies that are actively working to improve safety and health in the steel industry. Award-winning efforts are shared with Association members to encourage broader efforts to improve safety and health throughout the industry.

The Occupational Safety Management category recognizes significant achievements in reducing occupational health and safety risks and improving occupational safety through the use of digitalization and IT technology. JFE Steel was awarded for its efforts to enhance operational safety through its Safety Monitoring System, which issues real-time warnings of unsafe gas concentrations in plants as well as the detection of approaching heavy machinery and the locations of personnel nearby. The company introduced the system in all of its plants in 2019, helping to prevent industrial accidents.

JFE Steel, which operates under the philosophy of safety first, maintains safe and healthy workplaces through the concerted efforts of everyone working at the company’s steel mills and production facilities. The company’s occupational health and safety management system has been certified under the ISO 45001 standard to strengthen the independent and systematic implementation of the system companywide.

Going forward, JFE Steel will continue striving to realize safer and healthier workplaces through the continuous and effective implementation of its occupational health and safety management system.
