Measures to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

JFE Steel Corporation, which is committed to preventing the spread of COVID-19 through rigorous implementation of standard protective measures including mask wearing, hand washing and gargling, continues with other courses of action even after rescindment of the Japanese government-declared state of emergency.

 

Head office

(1) Through telework, the number of employees physically present at workplaces is limited to no more than 50% of each business unit’s normal capacity. Also, employees are recommended to avoid public transportation during peak commuting hours.
(2) Employees are obliged to measure their temperatures before entering the workplace. Also, the temperatures of customers, suppliers and other visitors are measured by thermography at reception.
(3) Partitions are being installed between employees’ work desks and dining room tables.
(4) Meetings, both inside and outside the Company, are being conducted online in principle.
(5) Business travel overseas is prohibited in principle.
(6) Business travel within Japan is being minimized, subject to the understanding of parties visited. Also, business travel to other sites within the Company is prohibited in principle.
 

Steelworks

(1) Employees are recommended to telework when possible, subject to the requirements of their roles.
 

During the Japanese government-declared state of emergency, the following measures were implemented:

 

Head office and all Japanese branches

(1) All employees teleworked in principle.
(2) Business travel, both within and outside of Japan, was prohibited in principle.
 

Steelworks and research centers

(1) All employees who could telework did so in principle.
(2) Rigorous anti-infection measures were applied for all employees who needed to attend workplaces for essential work directly related to production activities or operations.
(3) Meeting participants were required to practice social distancing and other measures.
 

JFE Steel, while working to maintain the continuity of its activities for the production of steel, an essential material required for infrastructure, is also striving to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in accordance with the policies and recommended schedules of national and local governments, keeping the safety of customers and employees as its top priority.
