JFE Steel Establishes New Continuous Casting Machine
in West Japan Works of Kurashiki Area

Tokyo --- JFE Steel Corporation (JFE Steel) announced today that it will build a new continuous casting machine in the Kurashiki Area of its West Japan Works. Total investment will be approximately 40 billion yen. Operation is expected to begin in the second half of 2020 and annual production capacity will be approximately two million tons.

JFE Steel is currently developing its sixth medium-term business plan for the three-year period from fiscal 2018 beginning this April. The decision to build the new continuous casting machine will be carried out ahead of the plan due to the facility’s highly strategic importance. In particular, the advanced technology to be introduced with the new continuous casting machine will enhance the competitiveness of operations at Kurashiki in terms of both higher efficiency and higher quality.

Going forward, JFE Steel will continue strengthening its domestic manufacturing base for enhanced world-class manufacturing capabilities.
