JFE Steel announced today that it has been certified under ISO 27001 (JIS Q 27001), the international standard for information security management, covering the company’s development, maintenance and security operations and management of externally marketed services.

JFE Steel operates a solutions business to provide a wide range of manufacturing customers with technologies embodying the company’s steelmaking expertise, covering areas such as quality and productivity improvement, equipment maintenance, environmental load reduction and more. The business also includes building systems and related applications that use operational data, sensor data and the like. To ensure that customers can use these information-based systems with complete confidence, the company has established robust security-management systems and measures.

To further enhance its security measures, the company upgraded its security-management systems to ensure compliance with international standards, for which it has now been certified under the ISO system.

The ISO 27001 standard for information-security management was established in 2005 by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission. Organizations certified under the standard are required to manage risks associated with the information they own and handle in order to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of this information, and to continuously strengthen their information-security management systems as appropriate.

Going forward, JFE Steel will continue to commercialize system-infrastructure applications built to high-level information-security standards, which it will provide to customers in steelmaking and other industries for mutual growth and development.
