JFE Steel Develops Eco Frontier® JM Inorganic Chromate-free Coated
Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Sheet with Excellent Corrosion Resistance

TOKYO – JFE Steel Corporation has developed Eco Frontier® JM, a chromate-free steel sheet with an inorganic film that enhances the company’s lineup of chromate-free coated hot-dip galvanized steel sheets. Eco Frontier® JM has two key advantages: 1) extraordinarily high corrosion resistance achieved with a proprietary film structure, and 2) superior performance for applications requiring corrosion resistance or exposure to high temperatures due to its reduced vulnerability to heat discoloration.

Having established a mass-production line at its East Japan Works (Keihin District), the company has commenced commercial production of Eco Frontier® JM. It plans to increase volumes in the future.

The JFE Eco Frontier® series is a line of chromate-free steel sheets designed to be environment friendly and pollutant-free. JFE Steel’s conventional Eco Frontier® JC is a coated hot-dip galvanized steel sheet with an organic film that has been widely used in vending machines, air conditioners, shutters and other applications.

Eco Frontier® JM benefits from innovations in the film-formation process, exhibiting superior resistance to corrosion in processed areas despite the thinness of the film layer.

Comprised primarily of chrome-free inorganic compounds, the film shows little discoloration from exposure to high temperatures, enabling the sheet to maintain its initial appearance. JFE Steel anticipates its use in brazed parts in the external units of air conditioners and in refrigerated and frozen showcases. It also offers excellent spot weldability, making it suitable for parts requiring processing and welding.

JFE Steel will continue to respond to the varied needs of customers by enhancing its lineup of environment-friendly chromate-free steel sheets.
