West Japan Works (Fukuyama) No. 4 Continuous Galvanizing Line Begins
Producing High-Quality GA Sheets for Automobile Exteriors

TOKYO — JFE Steel Corporation today held a ceremony marking the start of commercial operations on the No. 4 continuous galvanizing line (CGL) at the West Japan Works (Fukuyama).

The automotive industry’s increasingly exacting requirements for high-end steel sheets, in terms of both quantity and quality, cannot be met by merely renovating existing facilities. As a result, the company invested 18 billion yen to build the Fukuyama No. 4 CGL to exclusively produce galvannealed steel sheets (GA) for auto exteriors. Incorporating JFE Steel’s most advanced technology, the line has replaced obsolete facilities and made possible significant quality gains. It will produce the company’s new JAZ® (JFE Advanced Zinc) high-lubrication GA as well as conventional GA.

In the spring of 2006, JFE Steel’s joint venture in China, Guangzhou JFE Steel Sheet Co., also started a new CGL. Through these strategic investments, JFE Steel has created a production system capable of responding to today’s stringent quality demands for high-end galvannealed steel sheets.
