NKK developed a new treatment process called the RENAISSA System(r) that treats a mixture of night soil sludge and kitchen waste under anaerobic conditions. The system produces energy and compost for agricultural use. This paper describes some characteristics of the new process that were developed during pilot plant testing conducted from May 1998 until February 1999.
